FOREWORD
DIAMOND: Valuing a Priest's Year of Service
Rev. Fr. Nicanor Trinidad Victorino

Last year, the priest known as the oldest priest from Hagonoy was the Most Rev. Pedro Natividad Bantigue, D.D., Bishop Emeritus of San Pablo from Sta. Monica, Hagonoy, Bulacan. Yet the Lord gave him his heavenly reward last November 20, 2012, thus moving the line of living priests from our beloved town. Next in line to Bishop Bantigue was another native of Sta. Monica in the person of Rev. Fr. Nicanor Trinidad Victorino. At age 89, Fr. Victorino or “Fr. Nick” as people would call him is now the oldest in the brotherhood of Hagonoeño priests.

Fr. Nick lived during the time that the Archdiocese of Manila had spiritual jurisdiction from Bulacan to Cavite. That was why when he was ordained on June 7, 2013 as a priest and was assigned in Antipolo. Being a man on the move, he went from parish to parish until he was assigned to Cavite where he remained to be a priest of the Diocese of Imus that was erected in 1961.

A servant of our Lord Jesus, the High Priest, Fr. Nick was truly someone who has given his all for the Church. It makes me wonder of how people could sometimes forget how priests have been part of their lives, especially when he was the one who presided over the mass where you go on Sunday or the one who baptized you, blessed your marriage or presided over your kin's funeral. When priests become old, sick and sometimes considered “useless” they are disregarded as important. Yet the mind of the Church should always be for the care of all, especially for those who have “given their all” for her sake. Fr. Nick was one of those who have given all they had and all that he is for service of God and His people.

Fr. Nick has reached a moment in his life where he would have seemed “forgotten” by those he served. In God's grace, he has felt the love of the Lord especially during the celebration of his Diamond Golden Jubilee for 60 years of frutiful service. The celebration, done at the Parish of St. Michael the Archangel in Bacoor, Cavite last June 7, 2013 was a sign of continuous love for this priest who has given God's grace for years. His being a minister of the Church, who acts in the person of Christ is and will always be a memory worth remembering.

With this, we have valued this man's 60 years of service. It is in this light that Catholic Hagonoeño: Looking into the Catholic Heritage of Hagonoy, Bulacan, Philippines has made this special issue in his honor. A rememberance for Fr. Nick, our beloved Hagonoeño shepherd! May he always be blessed by God as he is his servant, pari magpakailanman!
