KULTURA: Viva Pit Senyor!!!: The 2012 Sto. Niño Exhibit

SAN JUAN, HAGONOY - A celebration of faith and devotion for the child Jesus, a widely spread celebration of the feast of the Most Holy Child Jesus was celebrated not only in Cebu and Tondo but all over the country. Even in our own vicariate and in my home parish, the Parish of St. John the Baptist, it became a yearly devotion to the parishioners and the youth. Since 2008, our former Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Lamberto Tomas introduced the parochial celebration of the said feast. The said celebration takes place every second week of the first month of the year. However, this year it was moved from second week to fourth week of January due to the preparation of the annual Señor Sto. Niño Exhibit, hosted by the Parish Commission on Youth led by Richard Gutierrez and with the help of various organizations in the parish and of course with our Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Candido D. Pobre, Jr.

The said exhibit was opened January 20, 2011 at exactly 6:45 in the morning, which was started with a sponsored mass for children. Several parishioners came in to see how beautiful the images of the Child Jesus are. Friends from neighboring parishes and parishes from the vicariate also spent time to lend their images of Señor Sto. Niño, a total of 40 images and figures were exhibited. The exhibit ran for 10 days in total, which included the novena days and the feast day on January 29. It was when all the owners of the images and figures took their time dancing, walking  and praying all through the procession which started at about 3:00 in the afternoon of a more or less two kilometer walk. They never got tired until the Holy Mass which was celebrated by Fr. Pobre. Its was almost 6 in the evening then, when the Holy mass ended, everyone shouted, “VIVA SENYOR STO. NIÑO!!” Afterwards, a simple snack was shared by almost 250 people and as a compliment to the children, Commission on Youth and other sponsors gave away candies and cookies. Everyone went home happy and hopeful of the blessings of the Señor Santo Niño’s blessings.

Indeed, it was another successful feast held for the most loved Child Jesus. And because of its success, surely next year’s celebration will be another triumph. So as I end this column I want you, readers to shout. “Viva Pit Senyor!” I hope to once again see you next year for this remarkable celebration.
